Cognitive peptides — sometimes called nootropic peptides — work on the brain's signaling pathways to support focus, mental clarity, mood regulation, and stress resilience. Two of the best-known are Semax and Selank, both developed in Russia and used clinically there for decades in the treatment of anxiety, cognitive fatigue, and stroke recovery.

Semax

Semax is a short peptide originally studied for its neuroprotective properties. It's thought to increase BDNF (brain-derived neurotrophic factor) — often described as 'fertilizer for the brain' — and to modulate dopamine and serotonin signaling. Users typically report sharper focus, better mental stamina during demanding work, and improved verbal fluency.

Selank

Selank is often described as Semax's calmer sibling. It appears to modulate GABA and serotonin, resulting in a steadier baseline mood, lower background anxiety, and better resilience to acute stress — without sedation. Some users pair Selank with Semax to get the focus benefit without the edge that stimulants can bring.
